Dauðalogn
Heimur hljóðlátur
Hreyfist ei hár höfði
Hljómar grafarþögn
Enginn vaknaður
Enginn taktur hraður
Algert dauðalogn
Inn á við held ég
Viðarglætur birta bál
Einn með mér sjálfum
Anda inn anda frá
Viðáttan er greið
Ferðamönnum og mér
Fyllir fjallasal
Klettar bergmála
Bergmálar í höfðum
Úti dauðalogn
Inn á við held ég
Viðarglætur birta bál
Einn með sjálfum mér
Nú sit ég með fast land undir fót
Morguninn mættur
Með sitt logn á mót storm
Og nú gárast yfirborðin
Og nú brjótum við dauðalognið

Translation
Dead silence
a quiet world.
not a hair on a head moves.
sounds of stillness.
nothing is awake.
nothing is moving fast
absolute dead silence*
within, i think a crystal clear forest becomes a blaze
one with myself,
breathe in, breathe out.
the expanse is ready for tourists and me,
filling the mountain halls
the rocks echo,
echoes in our head,
outside it’s dead silence
within, i think a crystal clear forest reveals a blaze.
one with myself,
now i sit with solid ground underfoot.
the morning arrives with its calm against a storm.
and now the surface ripples.
and now we break through the dead silence.

About translator
the other translation on this website was partially correct but in some places was more literal which doesn’t make sense in english. í.e. the title of the song and the meaning is literally ‘dead calm’ but it represents what we call ‘dead silence’ in english. it’s hard to take ‘calm’ out for me because sometimes dead silence can be eerie to some. another example is ‘grafarþogn’ which while literally meaning ‘grave-still’, just means stillness in this context. this is a better understood ‘translation’ more accurate to the meaning of images and such in english as opposed to literal ones that don’t make as much sense if not worded correctly. all due respect to the other translator who did an awesome an equally valid interpretation of the lyrics!
