Haf Hafgufa Haf Hafgufa
Hafgerðingar
Ekki nýtt vindar
Sǫkkr fold í mar
Ekki nýtr sólar
Hverfa af himni heiðar stjǫrnur.
Flóðbylgja
Ekki nýtt vindar
Sǫkkr fold í mar
Ekki nýtr sólar
När himlen färgas röd av gudarnas blod.
Hafgerðingar, havsvelg ok Kraken
Hafgerðingar, havsvelg, Kraken
Hafgerðingar, havsvelg ok Kraken
Hafgerðingar ok Hafgufa.
Haf Hafgufa Haf Hafgufa
Haf Hafgufa Haf Hafgufa
Haf Hafgufa Haf Hafgufa
Haf Hafgufa Haf Hafgufa
Hafgerðingar
Ekki nýtt vindar
Sǫkkr fold í mar
Ekki nýtr sólar
Hverfa af himni heiðar stjǫrnur.
Haf Hafgufa
Haf Hafgufa Haf
Flóðbylgja
Ekki nýtt vindar

Mínar biðk at munka reyni meinalausan farar beina;
heiðis haldi hárar foldar hallr dróttinn of mér stalli.

Translation
Sea fences
Sea fences2
Of no use will be the winds
The Earth will be swallowed into the sea
Of no use will be the sun
The bright stars will fall from the skies.
Storm surge
Of no use will be the winds
The Earth will be swallowed into the sea
Of no use will be the sun
When the sky is painted red by the blood of the gods.3
Sea fences, whirlpools and the kraken
Sea fences, whirlpools, the kraken
Sea fences, whirlpools and the kraken
Sea fences and the hafgufa
Haf Hafgufa Haf Hafgufa
Haf Hafgufa Haf Hafgufa
Haf Hafgufa Haf Hafgufa
Haf Hafgufa Haf Hafgufa
Sea fences
Of no use will be the winds
The Earth will be swallowed into the sea
Of no use will be the sun
The bright stars will fall from the skies.

I pray the tester of monks to grant me a safe journey;
may the lord of the hall in the highest hold his hand above me.

Sea fences and the hafgufa
- 1. The hafgufa is a sea monster from Norse mythology. Its name is composed of the words "haf" ("sea") and "gufa" ("steam").
- 2. So were described in the "Konungs Skuggsjá" three massive waves seen on the horizon. It is unclear whether they were actual waves or only an optical effect.
- 3. This line is in Swedish in the lyrics.
