Der Himmel lacht! Die Erde jubilieret. BWV 31 Kantate zu Ostern
Coro
Der Himmel lacht! die Erde jubilieret
Und was sie trägt in ihrem Schoß;
Der Schöpfer lebt! der Höchste triumphieret
Und ist von Todesbanden los.
Der sich das Grab zur Ruh erlesen,
Der Heiligste kann nicht verwesen.
Recitativ Bass
Erwünschter Tag! sei, Seele, wieder froh!
Das A und O,
Der erst und auch der letzte,
Den unsre schwere Schuld in Todeskerker setzte,
Ist nun gerissen aus der Not!
Der Herr war tot,
Und sieh, er lebet wieder;
Lebt unser Haupt, so leben auch die Glieder.
Der Herr hat in der Hand
Des Todes und der Hölle Schlüssel!
Der sein Gewand
Blutrot bespritzt in seinem bittern Leiden,
Will heute sich mit Schmuck und Ehren kleiden.
Arie Bass
Fürst des Lebens, starker Streiter,
Hochgelobter Gottessohn!
Hebet dich des Kreuzes Leiter
Auf den höchsten Ehrenthron?
Wird, was dich zuvor gebunden,
Nun dein Schmuck und Edelstein?
Müssen deine Purpurwunden
Deiner Klarheit Strahlen sein?
Recitativ Tenor
So stehe dann, du gottergebne Seele,
Mit Christo geistlich auf!
Tritt an den neuen Lebenslauf!
Auf! von des Todes Werken!
Lass, dass dein Heiland in der Welt,
An deinem Leben merken!
Der Weinstock, der jetzt blüht,
Trägt keine tote Reben!
Der Lebensbaum lässt seine Zweige leben!
Ein Christe flieht
Ganz eilend von dem Grabe!
Er lässt den Stein,
Er lässt das Tuch der Sünden
Dahinten
Und will mit Christo lebend sein.
Arie Tenor
Adam muss in uns verwesen,
Soll der neue Mensch genesen,
Der nach Gott geschaffen ist.
Du musst geistlich auferstehen
Und aus Sündengräbern gehen,
Wenn du Christi Gliedmaß bist.
Recitativ Sopran
Weil dann das Haupt sein Glied
Natürlich nach sich zieht,
So kann mich nichts von Jesu scheiden.
Muss ich mit Christo leiden,
So werd ich auch nach dieser Zeit
Mit Christo wieder auferstehen
Zur Ehr und Herrlichkeit
Und Gott in meinem Fleische sehen.
Aria Sopran
Letzte Stunde, brich herein,
Mir die Augen zuzudrücken!
Lass mich Jesu Freudenschein
Und sein helles Licht erblicken,
Lass mich Engeln ähnlich sein!
Letzte Stunde, brich herein!
Choral
So fahr ich hin zu Jesu Christ,
Mein' Arm tu ich ausstrecken;
So schlaf ich ein und ruhe fein,
Kein Mensch kann mich aufwecken,
Denn Jesus Christus, Gottes Sohn,
Der wird die Himmelstür auftun,
Mich führn zum ewgen Leben.

Translation
The heavens laugh! The earth with joy exulting
Coro
The heavens laugh! The earth with joy exulting
and all, what in its womb it bears;
the Maker lives! The Highest lives triumphant
and free now from the bonds of death.
He, for his rest, the grave has chosen,
the Holiest, freed from corruption.
Recitativo Basso
O, longed for day! My soul, be glad again!
The Α und Ω
,
the first likewise the hindmost,
whom our heavy guilt put in death's dungeon,
is now delivered from his pain!
The Lord was dead
,
behold, he lives again;
and if our head, the limbs will also live.
The Lord has in his hand
the keys of death and those of Tophet!
He, who his clothes
stained red with blood when suffering so sorely
today he robes himself with grace and honour.
Aria Basso
Prince of life and strong contender,
highly praisèd Son of God!
Does the ladder on the cross lead
you to the throne of honour?
Will that which before has bound you
now become your ornament?
Must your purple wounds become now
witness of your radiance?
Recitativo Tenor
Therefore arise, you soul that is God-fearing,
spiritually with Christ!
Start a renewing way of life!
From the works of death
refrain!
Make, that your saviour’s will can be
realized in your daily life!
The vine, that now is blooming,
will bear no barren branches!
The tree of life will keep its branches living!
A Christian flees
with great haste from the gravesite!
He leaves the stone,
he leaves the cloth of sins
behind him
and wants to be alive with Christ.
Aria Tenor
Adam must decay within us,
so that the new man can be born,
who ’s created after of God.
So you must arise in spirit
and leave the grave of sins behind
,
if you are a limb of Christ.
Recitativo Soprano
Since naturally the head
will take the limbs with him,
nothing can sever me from Jesus.
If I with Christ must suffer,
so also after this trial
with Christ I will surely resurrect
to honour and to praise
and behold God in my very flesh.
Aria Soprano
So, last hour, be at hand
,
come to close my eyes forever!
Let me Jesus see with joy
and behold his bright light shining,
let me like the angels be!
So, last hour, be at hand!
Chorale
Thus I will go to Jesus Christ:
Stretch out my arms towards him;
I pass away, rest peacefully,
no man can ever wake me,
for Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
opens for me the Gates of Heaven,
eternal life to grant me.
equirhythmic
