Hi! IMHO, by using the word "stairwell" an important aspect is lost in the lyrics. The Russian word "клетка" can be translated as "cage", which significantly adds to the meaning of the song and to its atmosphere. Well, as far as I know, "stair-cage" can be also used to name stairwell, which could be more suitable in this case.

There is no such thing as "stair-cage". You may be confusing it with ladder cage, but that's not a lestnichnaya kletka, (Same thing with staircase, which is not the same thing as a stairwell. A staircase is just a flight of stairs and does not need walls around, totallly eliminating the whole kletka part). See my comments above:
The Russian word kletka is short for lestnichnaya kletka, which means stairwell. Kletka by itself means cage or cell. A confined space. So in order to preserve the relation between title and the word kletka as it is used in the song, I chose to translate the song title "kletka" (cage - a confined space) to "well" (a deep water hole in the ground - also a very confined space). This translation retains the correlation intended by the writer: kletka = well and lestnichnaya kletka = stairwell.
In my opinion you can't get closer than this. We have stairwell which is the only good/precise translation of lestnichnaya kletka. Then, just like the author used kletka of lestnichnaya kletka in the title, we use well. Same meaning as a cage/cell - a space with walls all around...

As for previous translations, here's a fact: The English word staircase does not convey the same meaning; there is a difference between staircase and stairwell. From https://grammarhow.com/ :
The difference between a “Stairwell” and a “Staircase” is related to the proportion of each. “Stairwell” usually refers to the shaft we see in high rise buildings, where the stairs are located. “Staircase”, on the other hand, commonly refers to a flight of stairs that is properly structured.
