Las Mañanitas Tapatias → English translation
- •
The Guadalajaran Mornings
1. | Cien años |
2. | Amorcito corazón |
3. | Tú, solo tú |
An additional comment. In the translator's second verse, first line, he translates "solecito" as alone. This would be a possible translation if the word in question were "solocito", but it isn't. Moreover the translation of it it doesn't make any sense in the context. What does being alone have to do with entering by her window? A more plausible interpretation is a ray of sunlight, which could very plausibly enter through her window and greet her. One Spanish/English dictionary defines "solecito" literally as a little sun. None translate is as alone.
There is also some confusion about the title. The video clip is submitted under the title "Las Mañanitas Tapatias", but when you actually start playing it, the real title shows, simply "Las Mañanitas". In the transcription, which matches what Pedro Infante actually sings, no mention of Guadalajera is ever made.
Obviously the submitter has changed the lyrics. I have no idea why.
I concede "solecito" was translated incorrectly but "Las Mananitas Tapatias" as the title was given, is translated more or less correctly as "Tapatio" is the well-known denonym of people from Guadalajara.
This is a translation of some version of this traditional song (which has many verses and different versions), but the reader/listener should know that it is not a translation of the transcription on the left, nor is it a translation of the song as sung in the accompanying video (which matches the transcription). There are several interpolations and also some omissions. For example, the last verse in the transcription is not translated at all and something else is put in its place.
