Rosemary

You said you were close to accomplishing the task at hand
I believe, however, that it's too late.
You spoke of a place in your dream
A place which never existed, yet you say you were there.

Leaves rustling thru a calm breeze
What you've lost still remains
Night begins, and it's getting late
Your faint silhouette shows me the way.

Day breaks, and it's getting late
This is the place where your rule begins
I still see that you're leaving
To the place where rosemary grows.

Day breaks, and it's getting late
This is the place where your rule begins
I still see that you're leaving
To the place where rosemary grows.

You speak in a dream without words
Take me with you, and I'll follow you along the way
Because it was then that my first task
Which I had followed -- I failed.

Day breaks, and it's getting late
This is the place where your rule begins
I still see that you're leaving
To the place where rosemary grows.

Day breaks, and it's getting late
This is the place where your rule begins
I still see that you're leaving
To the place where rosemary grows.

The day has arrived...

I never really try and translate these for myself, so I never fully understand the song when I listen to it. For some reason, I really like the lyrics here now that I see your translation - so thanks!

A bit too free...
Many tenses are wrong, and some parts are completely off.

For example line 2 means "I believe the (female) person that I have fallen for", not " I believe, however, that it's too late."

But since he clearly stated that it is a free translation, I don't think it deserves a lesser rating. Anyway, feel free to add a more literal version, that would be cool too.

ScieraSciera    Sat, 02/03/2013 - 15:27

Maybe I'll add one; I gave that rating mostly since there are mistakes like that in line 2 which is clearly completely wrong.

Hence, the free interpretation part :) If he didn't know German, maybe it was a mistake, but it seems like he knew what he was doing, and that it was intentional.

Oh wow. I wasn't expecting such lively commentaries here hehe. Thank you both for your ratings and suggestions. (=

Vote has been deleted.

There is a line between a free translation and an incorrect translation, and this one crosses that line far too often.

I fully agree. There are a lot of faults and misunderstandings.

@mathews.kottayam: Your 1 star rating is not justfied.
The translation has quite a few flaws, but it is not absolutely "terrible".
@Sciera rated it right.
Please take a look at the FAQ 3.6 for the different quality levels.

4/3 stars seem valid, 1 does not. Vote reported.
