Coincidences

• 1. Quite difficult to translate. In context, I think of the Swedish sentence kind of like “Tillfälligheter? Ha! Med mig finns inga tillfälligheter!” (“Coincidences? Ha! I don’t do coincidences!”). It’s a bit clunky and sounds a bit like an action movie line, but it’s the best translation I’ve been able to come up with.
• 2. The subject “I” is ambigious, as the subject is dropped in this line, and the next. But because the third line explicitly states a “you”, and the fourth line is told from a first person perspective, I will assume these first two are first person.
• 3. “Sätta på” can mean to turn on (an appliance), to put on (a piece of clothing), or to fuck (someone). “Gå av” can mean to snap or break off, to get off (a bus, tram, metro, etc.), or to fire a gun. There’s likely a double entendre here that I’m not clever enough to understand.
• 4. AM is implied, she only explicitly states the time being 3.
• 5. “Skjuta” can mean both to fire (a gun), to push or shove something, to postpone something, as well as a few others. There isn’t enough context for me to definitively claim one of these as the intended meaning, but I guess it’s the second one.
• 6. This is very difficult to translate, and it’s even harder because there seems to be no agreed upon spelling of the interjection that Veronica says. It’s not in any dictionary, I can’t google it, but I think basically everyone who speaks Swedish (at least natively) knows what it means. It’s a colloquial way of saying “Åh, men…”, literally meaning “Oh, but…”, and it’s used to express annoyed disbelief and pleading, usually in a childish way. It’s something a teenager might say when their phone is taken away by their parents. All these connotations makes it very difficult to translate while keeping a similar connotation.
