What I love

I can do without happiness,
because it carries unhappiness within
I must destroy it
What I love I want to put to death

That I am happy cannot be
No

I don't love that I love something
I don't like when I like something
I'm not happy when I'm happy
Knowing after all, I will regret it

That I'm happy cannot be
Those who love me wilt from it

What I love
will spoil
What I love
will also have to die
Have to die

So I keep myself harmless
I'm not allowed to love
so I won't have to suffer (no)
and no heart will break

That I'm happy cannot be
No

What I love
will spoil
What I love
will also have to die
Have to die

Torment follows joy and happiness
every nice thing has to be paid for
yes

What I love
will spoil
What I love
will also have to die
Have to die

What I love

This seems to be the most accurate translation out there, including other sites. Though I believe that with the way "Muss ich es vernichten" is phrased, it becomes a question that the lyrical I is asking themselves, rather than a statement. As in, "Must I destroy it".

Negative.
Pay attention to the punctuation marks,
and listen to the way he pronounces it.

Ah, gotcha. I didn't even consider why I had that hunch, but I suppose it's just the way you'd say "Must I destroy it" in English.
I guess I subconsciously assumed German would work in a similar way.
